The whole province of Viterbo, north or Rome, is an amazing land dotted with monasteries, towers, Medieval hamlets, artistic treasures, lakes and beaches. Viterbo itself is a splendidly preserved Medieval town well worth visiting. The small town of Bomarzo features an anusual park, dotted with bizarre, monster-like sculptures; Caprarola, Ronciglione and Nepi boast some of the richest palaces in Italy built by influential Roman families. Within an hour’s drive of Il Girasole you will find Lake Bracciano, and also Lake Bolsena with its typical volcanic black beach. Further west the Tyrrhenian coast offers some beautiful sandy beaches and excellent sea-food restaurants. And don’t forget that Rome is only an hour’s drive from the villa.
