Description Large villa Sicily - Dating back to the 18th century, this is a restored ' masseria' farmhouse with an adjacent ' guard tower' alongside enjoying a dominant hillside position overlooking the countryside of Modica. The surrounding view is typical Sicilian country: corn fields interspersed with dry stone walls, cactus plants and wild flowers. The main residence is some 350m², whilst the tower is approximately 100m² the elegant surrounding gardens are composed of lawn, almond trees and century old olive trees. Of particular note is an internal courtyard or ' baglio' paved with pieces of ' basole' local stone surrounding a second small swimming pool. This is an ideal sun-trap and somewhere to sit and soak up the relaxing atmosphere. The property itself has retained many original fixtures and has been restored to a good level with wooden beams and rustic style furniture. The characterful kitchen, for example, is in brickwork and has been decorated with majolica pottery from Caltagirone and has an internal fireplace/barbecue. There is a large living room with loft (approx 140 m²) with fireplace, whilst the comfortable bedrooms have wrought iron beds and are furnished in a traditional Italian style. There are some staircases without hand rails in the property, so may not be suited to young children or the elderly. |
