This villa makes a fantastic base for exploring Tuscany. Just five minutes' drive away is Monteriggioni, one of Italy's classic hilltop medieval towns. The town is surrounded by an almost circular, turreted wall, part of which has recently been restored so that you can stroll along the ramparts, enjoying beautiful countryside views towards Chianti and the Val d'Elsa as well as a unique view of Monteriggioni itself. Described by Dante in his Divine Comedy (Italy's most important work of literature), this is the quintessential small Tuscan town. It was also an important stop on the via Francigena, the ancient road which linked north-west France with Rome and which can now be enjoyed by walkers or as a nature trail. You will find a variety of restaurants and cafés here and, when you want to explore further afield, you are really spoilt for choice, with Siena and San Gimignano both an easy drive.
