If you base yourselves at this villa you will find it quite easy to visit a number of Italy's best-known towns and cities, all of which offer much to see and do. Close at hand is the pictureque hill town of Todi. Come in July for the spectacular two-week international ballooning competition, or later in the season for the big arts Festival (end of August). If you are here in June or September, go and watch the Quintana, a spectacular costumed jousting tournament in Foligno. If you miss the water, you can spend long days at the Lago di Bolsena, a crystal clear lake formed in the crater of an extinct volcano; the water is pure enough to drink and the lake teems with fish, some of which are served at the lakeside restaurants. There are volcanic sandy beaches to enjoy, as well as swimming, sailing and boat trips to the islands in the centre of the lake. The crowds haven't discovered it yet, so you won't be struggling through hordes of tourists! The villa itself has a lovely approach along a cypress-lined drive, and offers plenty of space inside and out for energetic children!
